Ton did not sign up for his 5th seasons pass for Cypress Mountain. Although I  will occasionally go there but the majority of the season you can find me in Whistler. That's where it all happens this year with the Gold Express card.

So the waiting is for the snow. Tonight Michel Oicle, Michelle and I went to the annual Warren Miller movie "Ride" (sponsored by Seagate, the company where I work) to kick of the start of the season, to get the spirit and get in the mood. During the three night the movie was shown, 1200 people each night enjoyed the movie.

Again, everybody is looking forward for another great ski season ...

05) We 27-Dec-2000 Ton went up Blackcomb again today. Although the lower parts of the mountain were covered in clouds during the start of the day, the upper levels were beautiful in the sunshine. What a perfect day! Fresh snow and superb skiing. Whistler/Blackcomb

16) Sa 14-Apr-2001 Great weather (sunny day) during the international ski and snowboard festival. Ton went to Whistler (Blackcomb) with Brendon Joseph. We left Vancouver around 7 AM and arrived just before noon in Whistler. A terrible accident caused a huge traffic jam just 10 km. south of Whistler. There were 3 cars involved in a head on collision which killed 3 people and left 7 people injured. We had to wait on the highway for about 2.5 hours for the accident scene to be cleared. From www.mybc.com:

Double fatal accident
Crash claims two lives near Whistler

WHISTLER (CKNW) - A Saturday morning crash on the Sea-to-Sky highway, between Squamish and Whistler, has claimed two lives. About 10 others are injured, some seriously.

The accident, involving two passenger cars and a van, occured at 7:15 a.m. (pdt) on Power Line Hill, about 10 kilometres south of Whistler. Two helicopters and five ambulances were used to take the victims to hospital.

The highway re-opened late in the morning after being closed for several hours.

Police could not say what caused the accident. There's no word on the names or hometowns of the victims.

What the Warren Miller team has to say about  Whistler/Blackcomb, British Columbia, Canada?
Whistler logo
THE BEST IN THE WORLD (from Willi's TOP 10)
It's the best, because it simply has everything. There are extreme runs that are as steep and though as anywhere, huge powder bowls above the tree line and great powder glades in the trees. There are groomed runs that make the legs of the best skiers in the world burn. With 1600m vertical (over 5000ft) all fall line, if you are in shape and a good skier/rider you can easily rattle of 60.000+ vertical feet of freeriding in a day. By having the choice of skiing/riding on the glaciers in the high alpine and below the tree line, you will almost always find good conditions, because when it snows the visibility above the treeline is miserable, where in the trees it's usually just fine and when it's sunny usually it's the other way around. The variety of terrain and exposures that Blackcomb- and Whistler Mountains offer are totally unique. To top it off, there is also great helicopter skiing/riding which will take you where the lifts don't go. The icing on the cake is Whistler Village. Everything from five star hotels (Chateau Whistler, my personal favorite), to self contained condos to good B+B's within easy walking distance to the lifts and a variety of restaurants that are better than what's available in most major cities. One negative; due to the close proximity to the Pacific Ocean, the weather ever once in a while can be brutal. The positive; lots of snow (average base in winter over 300cm, appr. 10ft) and the season lasts from mid November to August.
