REDMOND,
Wash. Feb 28 — The economic impact of
the 6.8-magnitude earthquake that rocked western Washington Wednesday
likely will top $2 billion, state officials said Thursday. That figure
includes the heavy damage to public property, like the state capitol
building in Olympia. The private sector also suffered from the temblor.
The facilities of Seattle’s corporate giants, including Starbucks,
Amazon.com and Boeing also suffered their share of structural problems.

| Capone's Restaurant & Live Jazz Bar 1141 Hamilton Street Vancouver, BC V6B 5P6 (604) 684-7900 Cross Street Located just off Davie Street Published on http://www.mybc.com: 05/04/2000 This is Yaletown's original--and only--live jazz venue, featuring a selection of local performers as well as showcasing international artists five nights a week. The food is New York-influenced with a West Coast flair, and Capone's is becoming quite renowned for its unique tapas and martini pairings. Located just off Davie Street, it's open seven days a week from mid-day until late. The menu here is in effect throughout open hours. There's a selection of soups, salads and breads including the rustic salad (roasted lamb, goat cheese, tomatoes, cucumber and kalamata olives on a bed of spring mixed greens in a fresh rosemary vinaigrette) in two sizes: small for $7 and large for $10; and warmed goat cheese bruschetta ($8). Pizzas and calzones feature several gangster-inspired names: the "Capone" is tomato sauce, chorizo sausage, capicolla, mushrooms, banana peppers and mozzarella ($13), and the vegan "Untouchable" is tomato and pesto sauces, mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes and roasted peppers ($14). Two of the pasta choices are linguini pescatora for $16 (mussels, clams, scallops, calamari and prawns in a garlic-white wine sauce), and chicken cannelloni for $13 (fresh roasted chicken breast with locally-made ricotta cheese and baked in a basil-rosé sauce). Six entrées are on offer, and all are accompanied by fresh café vegetables and the day's specially-prepared potato: the grilled halibut in a sweet strawberry-balsamic reduction is $17, and the New York steak is a Grade A strip loin with a trio peppercorn reduction ($18). The tapas menu is where you'll find the tapas and martini pairings; for example, the pork tenderloin medallions tapas with an espresso port reduction on a bed of grilled polenta ($9) goes well with the "Miles Davis" martini (Smirnoff and a dash of vermouth shaken and strained into a glass rinsed with scotch and garnished with an olive); and the Sambuca prawns, sautéed in garlic butter, fresh basil and fennel served in a Sambuca cream sauce ($9) are best accompanied by the "Licorice Whip" martini (Smirnoff and black Sambuca). Martinis are all $5.95. Desserts are both familiar and decadent, including Mudd Pie and chocolate pecan pie (and all are $6). Reservations are recommended. |
