Historical Photo Album


This page contains a few historical pictures from Ton's youth. It's a first step in creating an historical photo album here. These first pictures have been scanned to share right now, hopefully more scans will soon follow. So stay tuned.

April 1964

Age: 1

This must be Ton's first birthday on 01-Apr-1964. On the back of the picture only "April 1964' was written. This picture is taken in Oldenzaal (The Netherlands), Ton's birth place.
December 1973

Age: 10

Ton played "Sinterklaas" music on his trumpet. Location: "Bernadette" elementary school in Oldenzaal. Class mate Peter Grosse is holding the sheet music in front of Ton (seen on his back).
1975

Age: 12

Soccer team at elementary school (class 6). We played at an annual tournament between elementary schools at the Quick soccer fields in Oldenzaal. Our team was renamed as "Benfica". Ton kneels in front row, second from the right.
March 1977

Age: 13

Henk (Ton's brother) is celebrating his 17th birthday at our parent's home in Rembrandt Street (Oldenzaal). From left to right: René, Henk and Ton.
26-Feb-1979

Age: 15

Carnaval in Oldenzaal. The music organization St. Joseph were Ton (playing trumpet in front left) was playing here in the so called Sunday "optocht" parade.
Summer 1979

Age: 16

Ton practicing his DJ-ing at home (Rembrandt Street). With just one turn table (Philips), his first microphone (Sony) and a cassette tape deck (Philips) his first virtual radio programs were made in his bed room. In 1978 he already started as a DJ at the age of 15 in a club in Oldenzaal ('t Siepelke).
February 1980

Age: 16

Ton plays trumpet in one of the many groups he played in. In this case he plays for the Spanvöggel band. They were part of a carnaval organization with the same name. They were located in Berghuizen, with is the southern part of Oldenzaal were Ton grew up.
Summer 1981

Age: 18

Ton performs as a DJ during the local Oldenzaal street fest called "n Boeskool is Lös". Here he is caught on camera with his uncle (Gerard Olde Kalter) who ran a pirate radio station in Oldenzaal for many years. The DJ booth was promoting the local record store (in the background) Jos Pierik in the Groote Street. The equipment was made available by Ton's uncle.
